Ely Eventing Centre

Our Facilities

The cross country course was established in 1999 on 100 acres of fen Farmland, The peaty nature of the soil ensures good ground at all times of the year and it can be irrigated in the event of very dry weather. There are a wide range of fences of all sizes and types starting at 2ft[60cm]high and suitable to introduce horses and riders to cross country riding, and progressing up to British Eventing Novice standard at 3ft 7in [1.10m] high. There are two water complexes which allow a variety of routes through them from the inviting slope down, to a log and drop approach, Included in the 100 different fences are Trakehners, Banks, Sunken road, Coffins and Ditchs of all sizes. The course has a good grass cover throughout and the most popular schooling fences have all-weather take offs and landings.

In total there are five courses of approx 2000m long, 2ft3in [70cm], 2ft9in [80cm], 3ft [90cm], 3ft3in [1m], 3ft7in [1.10m], each course has between 15 - 20 fences. The fences are constantly being changed and improved to ensure that the courses are slightly different for each competition, this may entail closing part of the course in the run up to an event. You are welcome to bring your own instructor or tuition can be arranged with Tina Ure BHSII..

We welcome all vounteers to help at the competitions, fence judging, starting, time keeping, scoring, or in the show jumping arena, each event needs a large number of helpers to ensure the smooth safe running throughout the day. All helpers recieve vouchers for free xc schooling, or a bottle of wine to show our appreciation and if you are interested a fence judges course can be arranged with David Merrett.

Please talk to Tina if you can help for a whole or half day. Click here for contact details
