The series aims to develop the confidence of both horse and rider when working on grass, over uneven ground and introducing the core elements likely to be encountered on a cross-country course.

Session 1. Sunday 10th March. Show jumping on Grass.
Focus on using poles and simple grid work to develop footwork and rideability. Developing to joining fences together in a simple course. 1hr session £35.00
 
Session 2. Sunday 24th March. XC course.
Introducing Ditch’s, Water and Steps to gain confidence, then moving on to linking simple XC fences together as a practice course.1.5hr session £60.00.
 
Session 3. Sunday 7th April. SJ field and XC course
This session will start in the SJ field, with a discussion about warm up procedure followed by jumping a course. We then move onto the XC course to practise the technical elements and joining fences together as a course. 1.5hr session £60.00
 
Session 4. Tuesday 16th April. Classroom session followed by XC session.
The classroom session will offer the opportunity to discuss speed, studs, tack and course walking. The ridden session will start with a warmup, Start box procedure, choosing the correct speed, preparing to enjoy your xc round. Classroom session to start at 2pm for everyone booked, followed by group practical mounted sessions. £50.00
 
Sessions will have a maximum of 4 in a group, which will be with horses/riders at a similar stage of training. All sessions will start at 10am and times sent out during the previous week.
 
Advance booking to include sessions 1/2/3 at £130.00.
Session 4 to book separately £50.00

The world’s best horse and rider combinations head East to Little Downham International (Tuesday 26th September), with six of the FEI’s top ranked riders set to compete.

Eventing’s power couple Tim and Jonelle Price make the trip to Cambridgeshire for the Advanced and CCI4*S with four rides.  The pair have used the Ely Autumn fixture in the past to prepare for the Autumn 5* season in both the US and Europe.
2023 Defender Burghley CCI5* champion, Oliver Townend returns to Little Downham, this time with Tregilder in the feature class.  The world number 3 was forced to pull up Tregilder before the Cottesmore Leap at Burghley earlier this month following a snapped rein.  The pair will undoubtedly be looking to put the miss hap behind them as they take on the compact Little Downham track.

Laura Collett was the inaugural winner of the Little Downham CCI4*S in 2020, a win that started a string of impressive titles including Pau CCI5*, Badminton CCI5* and Olympic Gold. The world top 10 ranked rider brings forward two rides in the Intermediate sections, with Sportsfield Freelance the 10-year-old she’s recently taken on from Irish international Aoife Clark her sole ride in the CCI4*.

Tom McEwen has become a regular competitor at Little Downham over the past two seasons.  He brings forward European Championship ride JL Dublin, and Blenheim dressage leader MHS Brown Jack.

Other notable entries include 2020 4* winner Piggy March, Pippa Funnell and Austin O’Connor who re-routes Colorado Blue from Burghley.

With the support of the Event Horse Owner’s Association, any EHOA member who is the owner of a competing horse is welcomed into the official’s barn for a complimentary lunch.
“Owners are the backbone of the sport and we wanted to offer our own thank you to them for their continued support, of not only Little Downham but of the sport of eventing in general” said Organiser Tina Ure.

Entry to the event is free of charge for spectators, with well-behaved dogs also welcomed.

Entries surge for Little Downham Regional Championships (30th September – 1st October 2023), with the event seeing a “significant influx of entries” in the first few days of entries being opened.

Event organiser Tina Ure had taken the decision to move the entries window closer to the event and is pleased with the levels of entries received so far.  
“We know that competitors like to enter later, and this has been seen with entry trends across the season.  For our June event we weren’t full at Ballot date and by the week of the event we had a sizable waitlist.  There is great enthusiasm for events and still a good number of horse and rider combinations wanting to enter but they simply want to enter later.  Moving our entry window back allows competitors to enter much closer to the event, enabling them to assess whether horses are ready, fit to run and keeping their money in the bank that little bit longer.”
Courses for the Regional Championships will have key differences to those of the non-championship sections and will also be slightly longer.

On-site stabling is filling up fast, with only a limited number of stables available on-site.  Competitors are urged to book stabling early to avoid disappointment.

Entries for the final CCI4*S of the season are also looking positive.  The Little Downham Advanced and CCI4*S has become a go-to fixture for those preparing for the Autumn CCI5*, with course design and going that lends itself perfectly to preparation for the European circuit.
Entries for both Little Downham International and the Regional Championships will close on 12th September.  Competitors are urged to enter as early as possible so decisions regarding additional days can be made, should the need arise.
